CHARITY CARE
Cleveland County HealthCare System has procedures in place to assist patients who face difficulty in paying for healthcare services, due to an absence of medical insurance coverage, or due to medical coverage which provides only minimal benefits.
Summary of Charity Care Policy
CCHS has a policy of extending charity care adjustments to patients who qualify as being medically indigent, subject to the following limitations:
- Patient balances cannot be adjusted for elective or cosmetic procedures.
- CCHS utilizes Federal Poverty Guidelines in evaluating medical indigence.
- CCHS will request documentation to verify patient income and asset information.
- Across-the-board waivers of certain co-payments and deductibles are not allowed, in order to honor existing contracts with government and managed care payers.
- Patients who have a net worth exceeding $50,000 are not eligible for consideration.
- Patients who meet eligibility for reduction of financial obligation will generally be a resident of Cleveland County or a county that is contiguous to Cleveland County
- Patients must make a good faith effort to obtain coverage from available public assistance programs and must follow through with all applications in this effort.
- Patient balances from previous accounts cannot be adjusted for patients who have newly qualified as medically indigent.
